Sow in spring<\/strong><\/p>\n

Sowing in the spring season will allow seedlings to benefit from a rapid germination, but a lack of water can compromise the plant\u2019s growth, and turn the young sod into a doormat.<\/p>\n

Sow in autumn<\/strong><\/p>\n

Sowing grass in the fall will help promote the development of the underground part. Thanks to the first heat, the seedlings will develop quickly, which will form a very dense lawn.<\/p>\n

How to sow grass?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Here is a list of the main tips for successful lawn:<\/p>\n

Stir your mix well<\/strong><\/p>\n

The mixture should be stirred generously. For this, we recommend pouring it into a bucket. This step is essential because the mixture contains seeds that are heavier than others, which tend to sink to the bottom and make it less homogeneous.<\/p>\n

This step cannot be omitted because it will be visible when growing and once the grass has developed. This step will need to be repeated several times.<\/p>\n

The right dosage<\/strong><\/p>\n

The more seeds a species has per gram, the less the quantity to sow. The right dosage is between 30 and 50 grams per m\u00b2, or 3 to 5 kg per acre.
\nThe dosage depends on the area you are sowing:<\/p>\n

\u2022 Near the house and heavy transit places, it is advisable to sow a larger quantity so that your lawn is thicker and more beautiful, but also more resistant.
\n\u2022 On other parts of the lawn, with less transit, it will be possible to reduce the dose.
\n\u2022 We advise not to sow less than 20 grams per m\u00b2.<\/p>\n

The right gesture<\/strong><\/p>\n

It is easy to find commercial seeders, but nothing is better than broadcast seeding. If you are using a seed drill, the distribution will be even, but care should be taken to prevent overseeding. There should be no shortage or overcrowded areas. The seeds are very visible on the ground, which facilitates their distribution.
\nIf you sow by hand:<\/p>\n

\u2022 You have to start by dividing the ground into strips 4 to 5 meters wide and crossing them to obtain a checkerboard pattern. To properly identify the squares, it is advisable to plant a stake at all crossings.
\n\u2022 Then you must divide the quantity of seeds to be sown in as many bands to then sow along each band by connecting one edge to the other, that is to say going up along the next, then down along the next etc., and do the same by connecting the other two edges of your land, crossing the first set of strips.
\nFor a better grip of the seeds, you can mix them with sand, which will give you a volume that is easier to hold.
\nAnother more time-consuming method is to seed by square, one after the other.<\/p>\n

Protect your seeds<\/strong><\/p>\n

After sowing is finished, you need to protect your seeds by covering them lightly. It is advisable to cover them with potting soil to a thickness of 2 to 3 cm, which while protecting them will also provide them with nutrients. However, if the land is large, this solution will be very expensive.<\/p>\n

There is more inexpensive method which consists of raking your ground very lightly to a depth of 3 to 4 millimeters, being careful not to damage the level by sudden movements.<\/p>\n

It will be necessary to finish with a roller, which will press the seeds to the ground and promote their germination.<\/p>\n

Once the grass is sown, you will need to water it regularly with fine droplets (the soil must be constantly moist), for the seeds to germinate and form a fine green layer:<\/p>\n

\u2022 Depending on the species and the climate, this step may take from 8 days to 2 or 3 weeks.
\n\u2022 Any weed that germinates must be pulled up, taking care to remove its root.
\n\u2022 When the grass has reached ten centimeters, you can proceed with the first mowing. You will not have to wait any longer because otherwise the leaves will lie on the ground and it will be almost impossible to cut them to the same height.<\/p>\n
